Dr. Rohit Gutgutia has been practicing reproductive medicine for over 20 years. A graduate of Medical College, Calcutta (a name he still fondly prefers), he went on to complete advanced IVF training at Herzliya Medical Centre in Israel under the guidance of distinguished mentors.
The training was courtesy an old reputed family-run business house. He was recruited to set up their new start-up venture, an unnamed IVF unit With complete freedom to design and manage the clinic, those early years became formative. Dr. Gutgutia often recalls that the first couples he treated were his greatest teachers – allowing him to learn, make mistakes, and refine his practice while deepening his empathy for those navigating infertility.
Through these experiences, he transitioned from the mindset of a gynaecologist to that of a fertility physician. The distinction, as he explains, is profound: gynaecology often assumes conception as given, whereas fertility medicine recognises its fragility. Every case is shaped by gamete quality and biology’s unpredictable “X factor,” making the task of supporting patients through miscarriages, failed cycles, and dashed hopes as essential as the science itself.
Over time, Dr. Gutgutia recognised the need for a new model of care – one that combines clinical excellence with professional management and patient-first support. That vision led to the creation of Ikivana, a platform designed to bridge global patients with India’s leading fertility expertise.
Through Ikivana, Dr. Gutgutia champions a holistic approach: fertility care that goes beyond medicine and procedures to include time, listening, mental and physical preparation, and financial guidance. His enduring belief is simple yet powerful: despite the setbacks and uncertainties, the journey to parenthood – however long – is always worth the wait.
